I’m a graduate of The School of Visual Arts and Hunter College, with BFA and MFA degrees in painting. In the past 3 years, I began my art career again after having a successful custom cake shop in Centerport, NY. For almost a decade, the custom cakes were my art—which was very satisfying.
My husband and I moved to Arizona several years ago, which is when I started my paper paintings. They’re all about color, form and texture. I can spend hours on end cutting and gluing—not really knowing where it’s going—which is part of what I love about doing these pieces. I love bright colors, and the excitement of working with paper to make it do things you don’t ordinarily think paper can do—dimension, shapes, layering and texture are what make me love this medium.
I also work in watercolor—mostly florals and imagery of the southwest, which has become part of my art sensibility. The paper “paintings” are completed inside a shadowbox frame for travel and display. I’d like the viewer to get lost inside the landscapes that I create. These landscapes are creating mystery and the desire to venture further into them.
